Taiwan health officials are reporting the first case of local dengue fever in New Taipei City this year. The patient is a 40-year-old man in Xiujingli, Zhonghe District with no recent history of travel.

The case is has recovered and been released from the hospital. The Department of Disease Control started the relevant prevention and control work. Measures aimed at cleaning up possible mosquito breeding sites have been launched in areas within 200 meters of the workplaces and homes of the confirmed and possible patients

This brings the total locally transmitted dengue infections in Taiwan to 70 in 2019 with 50 cases reported in Kaohsiung City, 18 cases in Tainan City, 1 case in Taoyuan City and 1 case in New Taipai City.

In addition, 307 imported dengue cases have been reported in 2019, the highest in 10 years.
