Mike Coston, Editor of Avian Flu Diary joined me on today’s, Outbreak News This Week Radio Show and I spent a huge portion of the hour-long program on the latest news, updates and analysis concerning avian influenza, both in humans and in birds, here and abroad.
Coston discussed the situation with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the US and Europe, what’s happening with then H7N9 avian flu outbreak in China and the enormity of human H5N1 avian influenza cases in Egypt, among other topics.
In the second half of the show, Sr. Research Scientist with Batelle Memorial Institute and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Ivo Foppa answered questions concerning a recent study published in the journal, Vaccine, which concluded that the seasonal flu vaccine prevented more than 40,000 flu-associated deaths in the United States during a nine year period from 2005-2006 through 2013-2014.
