Baylisascaris: An interview with Dr. Kevin Kazacos

Also known as the raccoon roundworm, Baylisascaris procyonis is the most common and widespread cause of clinical larva migrans in animals. It is a ubiquitous roundworm infection of raccoons (Procyon lotor) and is emerging as an important helminthic zoonosis, primarily in young children.

To take a comprehensive look at the raccoon roundworm, I had a real authority on the Outbreak News This Week Radio Show to discuss this interesting topic for the whole show–Professor Emeritus of Veterinary Parasitology at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Kevin Kazacos, DVM, PhD.

Geography, pathology, prevention and decontamination and a look at some specific cases were discussed, among many other topics during the interview.
