Health officials in Cape Verde announced late last week on eleven Zika-linked microcephaly cases through mid-June, according to a A Semana report (computer translated). The announcement by medical epidemiologist Maria de Lurdes Monteiro noted that of the eleven cases, one was stillborn.

Nine of these cases were diagnosed in Praia and two on the island of Maio, including the stillbirth. Monteiro said that the Health Ministry is monitoring 240 pregnant women infected with the Zika virus.

In Cape Verde, the first case of microcephaly associated with the virus was detected in March, six months after the disease has been declared epidemic. Since that time were recorded over 7,500 accumulated suspect cases. 65% have been reported in women.
