The Ministry of Health and Social Protection through the National Liaison Center reports investigating an outbreak of COVID-19 after an event held  at the Universidad del Atlántico in Puerto Colombia, which was attended by approximately 334 people on May 19, 2023.

As preliminary results of the epidemiological field investigation carried out by the Atlántico Departmental Health Secretariat, the Puerto Colombia Municipal Health Secretary and the Universidad del Atlántico, nine (9) confirmed cases of COVID-19 were identified, from people who attended to the event, according to existing records.

In the municipality of Puerto Colombia, according to the information published by the National Institute of Health – INS, there is an accumulated number of 8,593 confirmed cases from March 2020 to May 31, 2023, of which 96.84% have recovered.

In 2023, in the same municipality, there are reports of 20 cases and no deaths have been reported.

The national and local health authorities continue with epidemiological field investigation activities and monitoring of cases, with the aim of making the final classification of the situation presented at the Universidad del Atlántico.
