Dr. Peter Hotez discusses his new book, ‘Blue Marble Health’

From the introduction of the newly released book by Dr. Peter Hotez:

Blue Marble Health refers to a changing global health paradigm in which the world’s neglected diseases and NTDs are increasingly found among the extremely poor who live amidst wealth. Ultimately, blue marble health provides a new framework for shaping public policy to control or eliminate some of the world’s worst poverty-related illnesses

The Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and the  Texas Children’s Hospital Endowed Chair in Tropical Pediatrics, Peter Hotez, MD, PhD joined me for an interview to discuss his new book Blue Marble Health.

Hotez, a returning guest on the Outbreak News This Week Radio Show, talked about the concept of blue marble health and the impact of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and extreme poverty in the world’s richest nations and what can be done about it.

We discussed some specific countries and their particular issues, the convergence of NTDs, non-communicable diseases and what he calls “the big 3”–HIV, TB and malaria.

At the end of the interview, Dr. Hotez had some powerful final words about the recent loss of a legend–DA Henderson.
