An article that some, if not many, would consider controversial and conspiratorial was published in the Liberian Observer and has raised a lot of eyebrows as a Delaware State University plant pathology professor wrote some, lets say interesting claims concerning the Ebola virus in Africa.

Liberian-born, Dr. Cyril Broderick‘s made the following Five points in an article titled, Ebola, AIDS Manufactured By Western Pharmaceuticals, US DoD?:

First, Broderick says a secret battle between US and Soviet spies in the 1970s led to the ‘manufacture’ of ‘AIDS-Like Viruses’ suggesting a biowarfare aspect to Ebola. He says Ebola is a genetically-modified organism and not a naurally occurring virus found in the reservoir host, bats.

Dr. Broderick turns to the book, The Hot Zone, by Richard Preston to describe the pathology of Ebola–Spontaneous liquefaction is what happens to the body of people killed by the Ebola virus!, he writes. In an fascinating interview on the blog, Aetiology, Dr. Tara Smith interviewed Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) expert Dr Armand Sprecher in 2007 after the DRC Ebola outbreak.

When asked about the comparison between Ebola in the movies and the reality, he responded: “As for the disease, it is not as bloody and dramatic as in the movies or books. The patients mostly look sick and weak. If there is blood, it is not a lot, usually in the vomit or diarrhea, occasionally from the gums or nose.”

He also accuses the UN, particularly the World Health Organization of enticing African countries to participate in the testing events, promoting vaccinations, but pursuing various testing regiments, particularly Ebola. He also references a report narrate stories of the US Department of Defense (DoD) funding Ebola trials on humans, trials which started just weeks before the Ebola outbreak in Guinea and Sierra Leone, specifically pointing a finger at Canadian company, Tekmira Pharmaceutical.

In his 4th point, Broderick calls on the African people and countries to pursue criminal and civil redress for damages against the U. S., Canada, France, and the U. K. for their “detestable and devilish deeds”.

Finally, he says that African must not be used as guinea pigs. He points to the U. S. Government who was operating a viral hemorrhagic fever bioterrorism research laboratory in Sierra Leone asking, Are there others?

This article was published a week or two before locals in Guinea killed health care workers that were there to help Ebola patients  and Red Cross volunteers picking up an Ebola victim to be buried were attacked.

As far as Delaware State University, where Dr. Broderick is currently employed, the university says it won’t interfere with the free speech rights of a tenured professor.
