A Scottish nurse who contracted Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) while treating patients in Sierra Leone in late 2014, has been admitted to a Glasgow hospital for the third time since returning to the UK.

In a statement today, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said, Under routine monitoring by the Infectious Diseases Unit Pauline Cafferkey has been admitted to hospital for further investigations. 

Cafferkey, the first person to be diagnosed in the United Kingdom with EVDspent almost a month in an isolation unit at the Royal Free hospital in north London in Dec. 2014.

When she was later discharged, the nurse said, “I am just happy to be alive. I still don’t feel 100%, I feel quite weak, but I’m looking forward to going home. I want to say a big thank you to the staff who treated me – they were amazing. They were always very reassuring and I knew I was in the best hands. They saved my life.”

In Oct. 2015, she was admitted again for “an unusual late complication of her illness”. About a month after being readmitted to the hospital suffering from meningitis caused by Ebola, Scottish nurse, Pauline Cafferkey was discharged from Royal Free Hospital in London that November.

Scottish health officials said in the statement today: To protect patient confidentiality, we will not be publishing regular updates on this patient’s condition.
