In a follow-up on the report of the first locally acquired Zika virus case in the Philippines, officials with the Department of Health Regional Office VI (DOH-6) announced the probe into the case.

DOH-6 OIC-Assistant Regional Director Dr. Ma. Paz Corrales said Thursday the epidemiological investigation is being done together with a team of medical experts from DOH-Central Office and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and in coordination with the City Health Office.

DOH-6 is also conducting an intensive entomological or mosquito vector surveillance to search for larva and adult mosquitoes in the community, conduct sampling to determine the type of of mosquito or vector present, determine the magnitude of mosquito infestation, and search for mosquito breeding places.

In addition, free lab testing for Zika virus will be available for suspect cases, including in pregnant women.
