Japan health officials reported 62,613 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, becoming the first time daily cases in Japan topped the 60,000 case mark. The previous high daily cases were recorded on Jan. 22 when there was 54,565.

Officials also reported 42 COVID-19 fatalities today, the first time reporting more than 40 deaths in a day since October 2021.

The prefectures with the highest number of infected people per day are Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata, Tochigi, Gunma, Chiba, Tokyo, Ishikawa, Yamanashi, Gifu, Shizuoka, Aichi, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Tottori, Okayama, Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, Kochi, Yamaguchi, Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Kagoshima.
