Health officials on the Cayman Islands are reporting the first autochthonous chikungunya case in a patient from Bodden Town. The individual tested positive for the mosquito borne virus and has no history of travel, according to the Cayman News Service report today.

The island has already seen several travel associated cases this year.

Local officials recently confirmed that should Cayman face its own outbreak, health officials are prepared and ready to treat patients. There is however, no real cure for the mosquito-borne disease.
