In a follow-up on the Zika virus situation in Malaysia, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has received a report Monday on the third confirmed Zika infection involving a 27-year-old Chinese woman who is staying in Taman Desa Harmoni, Johor Bharu. The patient is currently four months pregnant with her first child.

She started exhibiting symptoms of rash, fever and body ache on Sep. 2. She sought medical attention in Government Hospital on Sunday after being referred to hospital by a private General Practitioner and was admitted for further investigation. Zika virus was confirmed by laboratory testing Monday.
According to the MOH investigation, the patient had a traveling history to Singapore six months ago. The patient is currently under observation and the care of the Obstetric and Gynecology for continuous monitoring of the mother and baby.
To date, Malaysia has seen three Zika cases–The first reported case was an imported case from Singapore while the second and third cases are locally transmitted cases reported in Sabah and Johor.
