She and her husband visited their daughter in Singapore on Aug 19 and returned to Malaysia two days later.

The source of infection is suspected to occur in Singapore since the patient had started experiencing signs of Zika infection on the same day with her daughter in Singapore. The patient’s husband and family members who lived in the same house with her, has yet to show any symptoms of Zika infection.

Singapore is currently experiencing a Zika outbreak with some 115 cases reported to date. Health officials say that of this total, five cases in Malaysians residing and working in neighboring Singapore have been confirmed to be infected with Zika virus.

In related news, the Malaysia Ministry of Health has reported 75,061 dengue fever cases through the first eight months of 2016, with nearly 40,000 cases in Selangor state. Of this total, 166 dengue related fatalities have been reported.

Malaysian Health Minister, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Dr. Subramaniam Sathasivam reminds the public to focus on cleaning the Aedes breeding places, protect themselves from Aedes mosquito bites and seek early medical attention if they have signs such as fever, rash and conjunctivitis.

He also called upon any individuals whom had visited countries that reported Zika infection, to come forward to seek immediate medical attention if they are experiencing any symptoms.
