On the Sunday, Nov. 23 airing of the talk radio program, Outbreak News This Week with Robert Herriman, the topics that were looked at included the death of Dr. Martin Salia, the Sierra Leone physician who contracted Ebola Virus Disease and was transported to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment. However, sadly, Dr Salia did not survive and I look at what was different with his case compared to the others treated in the US.

Sticking to the topic of Ebola, Herriman discussed the story of the Indian man, who contracted Ebola in Liberia and recovered, who was later quarantined at the Delhi Airport after health officials tested his semen only to find the bodily fluid was positive for the virus, even though multiple blood tests turned up negative.

During the second segment, Robert was joined by Avian Flu Diary blogger, Mike Coston, to get an update on two infectious diseases that continue to capture the attention–the increase in cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in Saudi Arabia in recent months and the bird flu situations in Europe with H5N8 avian influenza and Egypt’s recent human H5N1 avian influenza cases.
