In a follow-up to a report one week ago, federal health officials are now putting the total passengers and crew of the Oceania Cruises, Oceania Riviera sickened by the rapidly spreading gastrointestinal pathogen, norovirus at 127, up from 82 last week.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) reported yesterday that the number of passengers who have reported being ill during the voyage out of total number of passengers onboard is 124 of 1,225, or 10.12%

The number of crew members sickened remain at three out of nearly 800 onboard.

Oceania Cruises is a Miami, Florida, United States-based shipping company that operates five premium cruise ships on world-wide itineraries.

Norovirus is a very contagious virus. You can get norovirus from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces. The virus causes your stomach or intestines or both to get inflamed (acute gastroenteritis). This leads you to have stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea and to throw up.

Anyone can be infected with norovirus and get sick. Also, you can have norovirus illness many times in your life. Norovirus illness can be serious, especially for young children and older adults.
