Officials with the Paraguay Ministry of Health confirmed three deaths from dengue in the last 30 days, according to a Globedia Peru report.

In addition, 445 infections were reported and the virus is being reported in half of the country’s departments, including the capital of Asunción.

The three deaths were a 68 year old from city of Caballero, a 14 year old from San Lorenzo and a 65 year old from Luque (the last two towns on the outskirts of Asuncion). The third case also had heart disease.

Paraguay reported 50,000 dengue cases, including five deaths last year, while in 2014, 10,000 cases were reported.

In addition to dengue fever, some 10 suspected Zika virus cases have been reported from Alto Paraná department in eastern Paraguay bordering both Brazil and Argentina.
