The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported the first human rabies deaths of the year in a Igbaras town man.

Head of the IPHO, Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon said the 28-year-old man was bitten by a stray dog in Guimbal town.
Soon after, he exhibited signs and symptoms of rabies when he was brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City where he died a few days later.
Region VI, or the Western Visayas region has reported three rabies deaths through April 1 this year.
Nationally, 88 rabies cases/deaths have been reported in the Philippines in the first three months of 2023. This is slightly up (4%) from the 85 cases/deaths reported during the same period in 2022.
