The Philippines Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 12,439 COVID-19 cases Thursday, including 165 new COVID-19 related fatalities. This is the second consecutive day of recording 12K + cases since the recent wave.

The country also topped the 1.7 million case mark since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the past 28 days, the Philippines have seen more than 200,000 new cases and 3100 deaths.

The Quezon City government recently placed more areas under lockdown amid the recent surge in cases. A total of 40 areas of special concern are now locked down since the start of enhanced community quarantine.

Only about 10 percent of the Philippines population have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
