Eastern Visayas

Officials with the Department of Health in the Eastern Visayas (Region 8), which encompasses Samar, Leyte and Biliran, are reporting an 86 percent increase in dengue fever compared to the same period in 2018.
From January 1 to July 11 this year, 4,809 confirmed cases, including 19 fatalities have been recorded. 2,590 cases were reported last year at this time.
John Paul Roca, DOH regional information officer said the non-stop surge of cases since last year is very alarming.
“We have to heighten active surveillance in all reporting sites. We have been providing assistance to local government units through massive information drive, assembly of mothers, and conduct misting and fogging activities,” Roca said.
