This is up from 471 cases in September.

Of the total cases, 85% were men, and more than half of the infections were linked to sexual contact. Most cases continue to occur in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley area.

The outbreak of hepatitis A in Portugal began earlier this year and was identified in February. This arises in the context of an ongoing outbreak in Europe, beginning in 2016. Almost all cases have been identified in men who have sex with men during sexual contact by fecal-oral transmission.
