Puerto Rican health officials reported an additional 436 confirmed Zika virus cases in the past week, bringing the total confirmed to 2,162. Of this, 108 additional pregnant women were reported and two additional cases of Guillain Barré syndrome (GBS), bringing the totals to 299 and 14, respectively.

This is according to Secretary of Health Ana Armendariz Ríus who said, “Zika prevention is everyone’s job. To ensure that any container around our homes are covered to prevent mosquito breeding sites.

“The Zika Steering Committee remains committed to providing the people Puerto Rican tools to prevent the spread of the virus. ”

In addition, Ríus reiterated the main symptoms associated with Zika: rash, fever, joint pain and conjunctivitis without secretion. “If you have any of these symptoms, see your doctor to get tested for the Zika virus.”

She also stressed the importance of using insect repellent and placing screens on windows and doors.
