In this news brief, with summertime upon us–hot weather and warming of the waters–I wanted to spend some time looking at the brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri.
I look at the parasite and primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM)-transmission, occurrence, symptoms and prevention.
I also look at the drug, miltefosine and the US hospitals that keep it on-hand.
Lastly, I introduce the audience to three great amoeba awareness websites.
