The Minister of Health of Tanzania, the Hon. Ummy Mwalimu said at the 22nd session of the East African Union of Ministers held in Arusha:

“There is an outbreak of an unknown disease in South Tanzania (Lindi) and already our team of experts is there. Samples taken from patients and indicated that they are not Ebola, Marburg or COVID-19 disease.”

She also said that the government through the Ministry of Health has accepted a request from the World Health Organization and from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) from the US government to strengthen the team of experts in identifying the outbreak.
