Earlier today, Yahoo News released to their 815,000 followers on their Twitter page what would be the story of the day…if it was true.

The super-sensationalized tweet talked of 145 people in Atlanta being infected with the Ebola virus-pointing fingers at the Samaritan’s Purse missionaries who recently arrived from Africa.

The tweet survived on the Twitter page for some 20 minutes before the company removed it…but not before it was retweeted hundreds of times.

Clearly, the news site was hacked and the bogus info was sent out. Yahoo quickly responded with the following tweet some 3 hours ago:

Other than the follow-up tweet, there is no official word from Yahoo at this point. I think it’s safe to say there is not an Ebola outbreak in Atlanta….pass it on.
