The number of fatalities linked to Angola’s worst yellow fever outbreak in 30 years has risen to 185, according to media accounts. Of the 185 deaths, 141 have been reported (76%) in Luanda province alone.

A statement from the Angolan Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, also revealed that since March 27th 483 new cases of infection have been confirmed.

China, which has reported at least six imported yellow fever cases in travelers to Angola, has sent a 10 person medical team to Angola vaccinating score of nationals working in the country against yellow fever, according to African media.

The team was expected to vaccinate Chinese against yellow fever and conduct education and prevention campaigns for Chinese companies working in Angola, and to carry out epidemic studies and evaluation of the impact of the disease in the country, said Jin Xia, a leading epidemic expert in the team.
