The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) is today (November 10) investigating an outbreak of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) at a kindergarten-cum-child care centre in Yuen Long affecting 22 pupils, and hence appealed to the public and management of institutions to maintain personal and environmental hygiene against AGE.
The affected pupils, 14 boys and eight girls aged 2 to 6, have presented with vomiting and diarrhoea since November 3. Fifteen pupils sought medical attention and did not require hospitalisation. All the affected persons are now in stable condition.
Investigations are continuing.
Officers of the CHP have conducted a site visit and provided health advice to the staff of the kindergarten concerning proper disinfection, disposal of vomitus, and personal and environmental hygiene. The kindergarten has been put under medical surveillance.
This outbreak follows an outbreak of upper respiratory tract infection (URI) at a kindergarten cum child care centre in Tsing Yi where 20 children were affected.
