The lecture will be given by Lindsay Maggio, MD, MPH, FACOG. Dr Maggio is a Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine with the University of South Florida.

Zika virus was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in February of 2016.  While most people infected with Zika virus are asymptomatic, those with the infection have very mild illness with a fever, rash, red eyes, and muscle aches.  Zika virus has been shown to be transmitted by pregnant women to their fetuses and can result in a serious congenital infection.

Maggio will discuss Zika virus infection in pregnant women, how it is transmitted, and what can be done to protect pregnant women and their unborn children from infection.

The lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28 at 6:30 pm at the TGH Community Health Education Center, 2106 South Lois Avenue, Tampa, FL 33629.
