Zika virus. A topic that has dominated the news coverage, a topic in which the research is coming out at a rapid pace.

On the Sunday, Mar. 13 airing of the Outbreak News This Week Radio show, Columbia University Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, Virologist and author of the popular science website, Virology Blog, Vincent Racaniello, PhD joined me to talk about a wide range of Zika topics to include the likely Zika-microcephaly link, sexual transmission and “If we went back one year and I asked you what virus would be dominating the news coverage, like H1N1 and Ebola before, would you have guessed in a million years it would be Zika?”

In addition, Racaniello, a renown polio virologist, discusses the upcoming move globally synchronized switch from the trivalent to bivalent oral polio vaccine and circulating vaccine-derived polioviruses.
