The Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) is reporting today (computer translated) on the first imported, or travel-associated Zika virus case in the country.

The infected individual arrived in Moscow demonstrating clinical manifestations of the disease, including a fever and a rash. The patient had just returned from vacationing in the Dominican Republic, one of several countries and territories in the Americas reporting local transmission of Zika virus.
The patient is currently hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Rospotrebnadzor notes that family members under observation tested negative for the virus and are not showing symptoms.
They also note there is no threat to fellow passengers on the plane.
Health officials say that the climate in Russia will not facilitate the spread of Zika; however, they remind travelers to pay attention when planning a vacation in the tropical and sub-tropical climate that it is necessary to take the necessary precautions.
