The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says: C. difficile was estimated to cause almost half a million infections in the United States in 2011, and 29,000 died within 30 days of the initial diagnosis.
It’s a very serious infection and my guest on Sunday’s show answered a number of questions about the organism and the disease known simply as C. diff.
Erin Archer Kelser, RN, BSN, CIC is not only an Infection Preventionist but she is a freelance writer and runs the website, germnurse.com. The conversation included C. diff disease and how it occurs, the symptoms, how it’s spread, treatment and so much more.
In addition, I played a very good interview about norovirus and discussed an article chock full of stats and info about human papilloma virus (HPV) and the link to a variety of cancers.
