Chickenpox in Kolkata
A single hospital in the city has reported 26 deaths from from chickenpox over the last three months, the highly unusual spurt in fatalities causing concern among state health officials.

Food poisoning outbreak in Palnadu
Around 138 students of a government girls’ residential school fell ill after having lunch at their hostel in Sattenpalli of Palnadu. The victims were rushed to Sattenpalli government hospital. Of them, 60 were admitted to the hospital due to suspected food poisoning after they complained of fever, vomiting and headache, and the rest were discharged after a health check-up.

African swine fever in Kottayam
The African swine flu scare has returned to Kottayam after a brief lull.
According to District Collector P.K. Jayasree, new cases of virus infection have emerged from two pig farms at Uzhavoor panchayat. In view of the finding, steps have been initiated to cull all 66 pigs within 1-km radius of the affected farms. The culling operations will be followed by an anti-infection drive at these locations.
