With a measles cluster recently reported in the Memphis, Tennessee area and more recently, an outbreak in Pinal County, Arizona, I discussed this very contagious viral disease with Registered nurse, infection control specialist and a freelance writer, Erin Archer Kelser for a measles primer.
Kelser discussed the history of measles in the United States, symptomology, complications, the vaccine and being an infection control practitioner in Southern California during the Disneyland outbreak last year, she explained why one case of measles a public health emergency.
