Health officials in France have seen a decrease in measles cases during the first quarter of 2019, according to recently published data (computer translated).

From the beginning of the year, 561 cases of measles have been reported through Apr. 3 (compared to 1532 cases in the same period in 2018), of which 174 (31%) required hospitalized (10 in intensive care), 48 (9%) had complications of pneumonia and one death was reported ( encephalitis).
More than nine out of 10 cases were unvaccinated or under vaccinated.
France reported some 2,900 measles cases in 2018, including three fatalities.
In the overseas department of Mayotte, there has been 21 measles cases year-to-date. On the island of Reunion, 41 measles cases have been reported in 2019 so far.
