Okinawa Prefecture reported a monkeypox, or Mpox case in a man in his 40s who presented with fever, rash and sore throat.

The man had no history of overseas travel.
Testing for monkeypox was performed at the medical facility, which was positive on April 7. The patient’s condition is stable.
This is the first monkeypox case in Okinawa prefecture.
On July 25, 2022, the first case of monkeypox in Japan was reported in Tokyo. Japan reported only eight cases in 2022.
However in 2023, the number of reported cases started increasing. As of April 4, 2023, 95 patients have been reported.
