In the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,109 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, which included 1700 cases in the Metro Manila area, bringing the country total to 129,913.
The Philippine government also noted late last week that they had received the anti-viral medicine Avigan (favipiravir) from Japan, which will be part of a clinical trial in the Philippines over the drugs potential for the treatment of COVID-19.
“Japan hopes that this ongoing cooperation with the Philippines would further contribute to the advancement of clinical research to contain the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to a statement from Japanese embassy in Manila.
In Japan, the drug showed some promise in treating COVID-19 infected patients as some of them recovered after taking it.
