The Provincial Health Office (PHO) in Negros Oriental reports the number of dengue fever cases in 2022 to date is 160 percent higher than the figures during the same period in 2021.

PHO data shows that from Jan. 1 to July 30, 2022, the province logged a total of 1,067 cases, whereas there were 410 cases during the same period last year.

Cities reporting the most cases include Canlaon City (237), Bayawan City (121) and Dumaguete City (107).

Six fatalities have been reported to date, while none were recorded in 2021.

Assistant Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Liland Estacion said, “We are expecting the cases to further increase because of the rainy season and that is why we are asking the help of the public to please be mindful of their activities”.
