The Saudi Arabia Health Ministry reported two additional Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) cases today bringing the country total to 835, according to a health ministry press release.

Details on the two cases are as follows:

Taif: 67-year-old Saudi male, non-healthcare worker, symptomatic, in critical condition, with pre-existing co-morbidities and history of animal exposure, but no history of contact with suspected or confirmed cases in hospitals/clinics or the community.

Riyadh: 93-year-old Saudi male, non-healthcare worker, symptomatic, in critical condition, with pre-existing co-morbidities, no history of animal exposure but history of contact with suspected or confirmed cases in hospitals/clinics is under investigation.

With the 2 newly confirmed cases, as of Wed 14 Jan 2015, the total number of laboratory-confirmed MERS-CoV infected individuals reported by Saudi Arabia since June 2012 is up to 835, including 358 deaths (case fatality rate 42.9 percent).

In addition to the new cases, there are 3 new recoveries reported, 2 on 12 Jan 2014 and 1 on 14 Jan 2014.
