The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has determined that the benefits of the Astra Zeneca vaccine outweigh the risks. However, it cannot be ruled out that some rare cases of serious side effects may be associated with the vaccine. However, these suspected cases have so far only been reported among younger people, not in someone over 65 according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Swedish Medicines Agency.

European officials: COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca not associated with an increase in the overall risk of blood clots

The Public Health Agency has now decided to recommend a further pause in the country’s regions for the use of Astra Zeneca’s vaccine among people under the age of 65, pending further pending safety data for those ages. This also applies to those who have received a dose. However, the work of vaccinating people who are 65 years and older can be resumed.

The vaccine is very useful for the elderly, many become seriously ill in covid-19 every day. At the same time, we have not seen a risk of these rare and serious side effects in the elderly. That is the reason why we are canceling the break for people over the age of 65, says Johan Carlson, Director General of the Swedish Public Health Agency.

Astra Zeneca’s vaccine effectively protects against covid-19 disease, serious illness and death, according to recent data on the protective effect, which also includes people in older age groups. The same applies to other vaccines that have been approved for use.
