Trader Joe’s has announced they have removed from sale and destroyed fruit supplied by Wawona Packing Company of Cutler, Calif due to the possibility that they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The company reports they have received no reports of illness related to these products. 

Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Customers who have purchased any of these items are urged to not eat them, and to dispose of them or return them to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund.
