According to a report from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Tuesday, Vietnamese officials reported outbreaks of the Highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAI) H5N8 avian influenza in poultry.

OIE reports this is a new strain in the country.
The three outbreaks that began in early June were from the northern provinces of Hoa Binh, Cao Bang, and Quang Ninh.
Of the 7355 susceptible birds, 1400 birds were killed by the virus, while another 5955 were culled and disposed of.
Other control measures include disinfection, movement control inside the country and vaccination in response to the outbreak.
