The Ministry of Health in Vietnam reported 2,949 new COVID-19 cases in 43 provinces and cities today, down 678 cases compared to yesterday.

This is also the lowest number of new cases in the past 2.5 months. The average number of new infections in the country recorded in the past 7 days is 3,980 cases/day.

Provinces and cities reporting the most cases include Ho Chi Minh City (1,018), Dong Nai (501), Binh Duong (447), Tay Ninh (112) and An Giang (111).

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Vietnam has 846,230 total infections, including 841,592 cases since April 27.

Compared to the world, the total number of deaths in Vietnam ranks 34 out of 223 countries and territories; Number of deaths per 1 million people ranked 135/223 countries and territories. Compared with Asia, the total number of deaths in Vietnam ranks 10th out of 49 countries and territories; The number of deaths per 1 million people ranked 30th out of 49 countries and territories.

Lastly, the total number of doses of vaccine injected was 55,229,124 doses, of which the first dose was 39,088,086 doses, and the second dose was 16,141,038 doses, health officials note.
