The Vietnamese General Department of Preventive Medicine reported on Saturday (computer translated), two additional Zika virus cases in two women from Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). This brings the total Zika virus case count in the country to seven and four in HCMC.

The details of the cases are as follows: The first case is a 22 year old female patient living in District 2, HCMC. Chi Minh. With symptom onset rash, fever, joint pain hands, conjunctivitis two eyes. Patients seeking medical care at clinics and test samples. The results were positive for Zika virus.Currently the patient has stabilized and monitored at home.

The second case is a 43 year old woman living in District 12, HCMC. Ho Chi Minh, with symptom onset rash papular form, fever 39 0 C, accompanied by myalgia. Patients to the hospital, Zika virus suspected to be sampled and tested. The results were positive for Zika virus. The patient had no history of travel or contact with sick people. Currently the patient has stabilized and monitored at home.

Other cases confirmed this include Pacific (01), Khanh Hoa Province (01) and Phu Yen (01).

In addition, Vietnam media source, Tieu Dung 24h reported Saturday (computer translated) that the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has summed up the survey to learn about viral Zika, in total nearly 24,000 female Culex natural form in Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa). 

Here at Outbreak News Today, we’ve have reported on studies which suggest that Zika virus has been detected in Culex mosquitoes (HERE) and some studies which say the virus is not carried in the mosquito (HERE and HERE) so we cannot say whether there is a definitive answer and further studies will tackle this issue.
