The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating reports of hair loss, hair breakage, balding, itching, and rash associated with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products. While the FDA continues its investigation, consumers should be aware of reactions reported in association with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products.
Consumers who experience a reaction after using WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products should stop using the product and consult with their dermatologist or other health care provider. The agency also urges consumers to report to FDA any reactions they may have experienced when using these products.
As of July 7, 2016, the FDA had received 127 adverse event reports directly from consumers about WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products, the largest number of reports ever associated with any cosmetic hair cleansing product, including cleansing conditioners. We also are investigating more than 21,000 complaints reported directly to Chaz Dean, Inc. and Guthy Renker, LLC that we learned of during inspections of manufacturing and distribution facilities.
The FDA has not yet determined a possible cause for the adverse events that have been reported, and has called on the company to “provide any data that might help us to better understand the reports of hair loss associated with the use of WEN by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner products.” The FDA also has reached out to physicians and other health care providers asking them to notify their patients of hair loss and other complaints associated with the use of these products and to report adverse events to the agency.
I sent pics of my hair loss along with pics of my WEN products, etc . to the initial investigating law firm on WEN, but they sent me notice that my case does not meet their criteria for active law suit. I wore wigs for nearly 3 years until I recently, approx. 6 mos ago, learned that WEN may be the culprit in my hair loss. I have begun to regain some of my hair since discontinuing the use of WEN. My sisters, both, have used WEN and also found that they were loosing clumps of hair
I started using Wen Cleansing conditioner about 18 months ago noticed some hair loss but as time has gone on has really gotten terrible plus had a lot of itching on my scalp to the point where I ended up with sores. I went back to my old shampoo & the problems are starting to subside,am sure it will take along time for new hait growth to come in (if it does at all.) I feel like Chaz Wen really took allof us I Have a full gal (never opened sitting here) plus between the other 32 fl oz bottlesI have bought through QVC no doubt close to another gal & now will not be using them as can’t afford to loose anymore hair & don’t wan’t that terrible itching back.hope with the infestigation they get to the bottom of why this happen & I think Chaz should have to reburse us for the products we bought from him.
I only used the stuff 3 or 4 times and my hair started falling out. I never had more than 4-6 hairs in my hair brush fore I used their product and suddenly my brush was full of hair. (besides it had a bad smell to it, sort of like pine tar) I refused the two additional boxes they sent and it took 2-3 months to get that straighten out. My hair continued to fall out for 6 or 8 months. It has been about 2 years and my hair is getting better thanks to a supplement I take for hair ,skin, &nails. however even with that I still only have about 1/2 as much hair as I used to. When I got a hit cut a couple of months ago I told the hairdresser about it . He said his clients that used it, either really liked it or their hair started to fall out.
I have used numerous Wen products for years and my hair has never been healthier. Even my long term stylus noticed the improvement! I’m sorry for those who had hair loss and other problems however, I will be continuing to use Chaz’s products. I buy through QVC as their prices are better and I did not care for Guthey Renker (?) customer service and QVC has the best.
