Fact-Checking Policy

At Outbreak News Today, accuracy is the foundation of everything we publish. Infectious disease reporting has real consequences for public health, so we hold ourselves to a high standard when it comes to verifying the information we share.

Our Process

Before any story is published, our team checks every key claim against credible, primary sources. We do not rely on a single source alone. Where possible, we cross-reference information across multiple independent and authoritative references to confirm accuracy.

Sources We Rely On

We prioritize information from established public health and scientific institutions. These include the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), national health ministries, peer-reviewed scientific journals, and direct statements from verified public health officials and researchers.

Breaking News

During fast-moving outbreaks, new information can change quickly. When we report on a developing situation, we clearly note that details are still emerging. As the situation becomes clearer, we update our reporting to reflect the most current and verified information available.

Opinion vs. Reporting

We clearly separate news reporting from opinion or analysis. Any content that reflects interpretation or commentary is labeled as such, so readers always know what they are reading.

Misinformation

We do not knowingly publish false or misleading health information. If content we have previously published is found to be inaccurate based on new evidence, we update or correct it promptly and note the change clearly within the article.

Corrections

If a factual error is identified after publication, whether by our team or flagged by a reader, we investigate it immediately. If the error is confirmed, we correct it as soon as possible. The correction is noted at the top or bottom of the article with a brief explanation of what was changed and why.

Reader Tips and Third-Party Claims

We welcome tips and information from readers, but all submissions go through the same verification process before they are used in any reporting. We do not publish claims from third parties without independent verification.
