In a follow-up on the dengue fever outbreak in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the number of dengue fever cases reported in the first 6 months of the year has reached 18,976 cases, an increase of more than 151% over the same period last year.

From June 17 to June 23, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 2,548 cases of dengue fever, an increase of 31.6% compared to the average of 4 weeks ago.

The number of children being examined and hospitalized for dengue fever has increased rapidly, many children have severe complications and die due to not being treated in time.

According to the data provided by Children’s Hospital 1 in HCMC, in the first 6 months of the year the hospital received 5,493 visits. Of which, 1,739 cases required hospitalization for inpatient treatment, the hospitalization rate is 35.4%, up to 369 cases. On average, the hospital receives inpatient treatment about 120 cases of dengue fever every day.

There have been seven deaths at the hospital.
