Measles in Mumbai

Another suspected measles death was reported on Dec 12. The child, aged four, was a resident of Sakinaka and partially immunised. With this, the number of deaths due to measles in Mumbai has risen to 13, of which eight are confirmed deaths, while five are suspected cases. Moreover, two new hotspots have been detected in the city.

Dengue in Delhi

More than 260 dengue cases have been reported in the national capital in December, taking the infection tally of the vector-borne disease past 3,800 so far this year, according to a civic report issued on Monday.

1st Zika case in Karnataka

Karnataka has reported its first case of Zika virus after a five-year-old girl was found infected, health minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday, adding the government has issued an alert in the state.

Nipah virus ELISA test developed

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in collaboration with National Institute of Virology, Pune, has developed IgM and IgG ELISA primary diagnostic tool for Nipah virus (NiV) screening. The NiV is a zoonotic paramyxovirus that causes fatal encephalitis in humans.
