In Dimapur district, in Nagaland state in northeastern India, officials with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services report two human rabies deaths –a mother and son from Rilan village–who died in early June.

It is reported that the victims were bitten by their own dog 20 days prior to their deaths.

The veterinary department ordered the confinement of all dogs in the village for 14 days for observation and a vaccination drive was conducted.

It was not reported whether the victims sought medical care for their bites or the status of the dog.
