Measles: 300K cases reported in DRC

The world’s largest measles outbreak reached 299,586 cases through Dec 15 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The number of measles-related fatalities  have risen to 5,877, or 2 percent of the total cases.

DRC not only battles a massive measles outbreak, but also the ongoing, second-largest Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak (nearly 3,400 cases/more than 2,200 deaths), plus a large cholera outbreak, more than 5,000 monkeypox cases and dozens of circulating vaccine derived poiliovirus 2 cases in 2019.

In addition, the humanitarian crisis is large and complex which includes armed conflicts and hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons.
