In a follow-up on the mpox, or monkeypox situation in Thailand, Thailand health officials reported a significant increase in mpox cases in June 2023, according to a Bangkok Post report yesterday.

Authorities reported 48 new mpox cases in June, a 129 percent increase from the 21 cases reported in May 2023.

Of the 48 cases reported in June, 41 were in Thais and seven in foreigners, with the vast majority from Bangkok. No deaths were reported.

All 48 cases were in men who had sex with men (MSM) and close to half (22) have HIV.

This has prompted officials to warn MSM to take precautions.

To date, Thailand has recorded 92 mpox cases in the past year.
