In a follow up to a story Monday, the Iranian Ministry of Health has confirmed the first Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) fatality in a Kerman woman.

The release (computer translated) says the 53-year-old woman from the southeastern city died despite all medical efforts. The second MERS coronavirus case confirmed, a woman also from Kerman, has recovered and has since been discharged from the hospital.

In addition, health ministry officials deny reports of nine other MERS cases in the country. For more infectious disease news and information, visit and “like” the Infectious Disease News Facebook page
